Please contact any stores you’re thinking of visiting in advance to check they do have the record you want, as well as opening time on Saturday, purchase limits (usually only 1 of each item per customer, though some will allow you to queue again for another round), and advice as to what time you may want to begin queuing. A few shops have the space to allow you to wait inside, but at most you’ll be outdoors so wrap up if necessary. Some will be handing out free coffees or have arrangements with local cafés etc who will be selling hot drinks or snacks to those in the queue. On the other hand, some shops may not be expecting a queue at all – your best bet is to check with them in advance so you know what to expect on the day. Many of them have in-store entertainment planned, bands playing, or are handing out goodie bags – basically it’s meant to be a fun, celebratory sort of affair.

Any Record Store Day stock that isn’t sold in-store may be offered for sale on the shops’ website in about a week’s time, so it’s worth checking with stores direct if you can’t make it to one on Saturday, or your local doesn’t have the record you want. Maybe they’ll have leftovers you can pick up online.

If your local record store is taking part in RSD but isn’t listed above as stocking Curse Curse – ask them! There may have been omissions, or perhaps they can source one for you.

Competition time! Put your best beard forward

9th April 2015

The folks at Bearded Theory have kindly given us a pair of Weekend Tickets to give away—we’ve thrown in a few more prizes and we’re running a Best Beard Photo Competition to pick winners. (Ladies/children/clean-shaven take note: it needn’t be real.) A James theme of some sort may increase your chance of selection…significantly…but isn’t required.

Grand Prize: 2 Weekend Passes for Bearded Theory + a bottle of Barbershop Beard Oil (Original Scent) as used by our own Dave BP!

2nd Prize: Iris Proof Print of the La Petite Mort artwork signed by the band + a bottle of Barbershop Beard Oil

3rd Prize: Rare Moving On promo CD + a bottle of Barbershop Beard Oil

Enter by posting your photo on the James facebook page, tweeting it at @wearejames, or e-mailing it to competitions[at]wearejames[dot]com along with your name, age, location and contact details – and include the word Beard in the subject line. Please also state whether you’ll be able to attend the festival (21-24 May at Catton Hall, Derbyshire) if selected as the Grand Prize winner, or if we’ll need to rustle up an alternative prize of our choosing.

If you’re already planning to attend the festival, feel free to use this as a warm up for their attempt to set a new world record for the most fake beards worn at the same time/place.

Thanks also to Manchester’s Barbershop Beard for furnishing each of our winners with Dave’s beard oil of choice. Should you wish to swap beard care tips with Dave, you can try him on twitter: @DBayntonPower.

Competition closes at midnight on Saturday 25th April. Best of luck.

On Sunday 14th June, the band will be headlining the one-day Folklore festival on the isle of Jersey.

Laid-back, relaxed and intimate, Folklore is sure to be the warmest and friendliest celebration of creative arts in Jersey this summer.”
