James have been invited to play at the BBC’s historic Maida Vale studios next month, as part of 6 Music’s #6MusicLive series. This comprises five sessions running from 6th-10th October, featuring bands and artists chosen by the BBC for ‘perfectly encapsulating the alternative spirit of 6 Music’. James will be closing the series, appearing on 10th October.

6 Music are giving away a limited number of tickets to each session – you can register for a chance to win a pair here on their website. Those at home will be able to watch the sessions live online. Afterwards there will be highlights available to watch each evening via the ‘red button’, and highlights on demand online for 30 days.

On BBC Radio 6 Music tonight, Tom Robinson announced that La Petite Mort had ‘by far and away’ the most votes from listeners in their poll to establish the albums most criminally overlooked for the Mercury Music Prize shortlist.

He went on to play ‘Walk Like You’ – most requested track from the album – to bring their programme highlighting the shortlist to a close.

Jim and Tim proudly introduce our Curse Curse ‘Remix Me’ Top Ten Countdown on behalf of the band.

Jim begins: “The Official James Curse Curse Remix Competition is finished and we have a winner; in fact ten of them. We will be announcing the Top Ten in reverse order starting with tenth position today.

What an absolutely brilliant experience this has been. With pushing 80 entries spanning all genres and tastes.

The standard has been incredibly high and our job virtually impossible. Remixers, we salute you.

There should have been multiple categories: Best Dance, Most Original, Makes You Smile etc etc etc.

It was so hard to whittle it down to just ten.

But here we go…”

Tim continues: “Music shouldn’t be in competition with music. Leave that to sports. How do you compare remixes when some are dance versions, others alternative song arrangements, some industrial noise experiments, one a knowingly kitschy Burt Bacharach parody.

It’s been a great process for us to hear such wonderful variations – five of us in James voted our top ten and here is No 10.”

Jim reveals… “In tenth place, George Zambra.

I particularly liked George’s mix as unlike most, that highlighted the dance element of the song, George went for guitars.

The last 1 minute 30 seconds sounds like us playing live, or at least how I’d like us to sound.

So, well done George.”

Later this year, Curse Curse will also be released on limited edition 12″ vinyl – oh yes! – accompanied by the band’s choice from the Curse Curse Remix Competition we’re currently running with DJ Mag. Any budding superstar mix engineers out there want to take a crack at Curse Curse? There’s just one week left to get your mix finished, and submit it to us via our Remix Competition with DJ Mag. The band’s favourite will be released on 12″ vinyl along with the original.
